Getting Ready

I’m so excited as the time draws near to hit the open road. Only 5 sleeps left before our first big RV road trip – learning to live the retirement lifestyle while still working! For those of you who know me … yes I do have “the binder”, yes I do have all the details planned, and no I haven’t given David all the details so he can think of it as a great adventure! Never been away from home for so long before so while it’s very exciting, I’m also a little apprehensive about leaving for 7 weeks!

The plan is to take our time and focus more on the journey than a destination. We will stay in Canada for the entire trip west. After Vancouver Island we head south to Seattle and will travel through the US for our trip back home. We do have a few touchstones that are certain to be highlights – like when we meet up with Jeffrey, Nancy and Cecilia in Calgary for the Stampede, or when we travel with them though the Columbia Icefields into Jasper, or meeting Cliff and Liz in British Columbia, this trip is destined to have a little bit of all the good things life has to offer – family, friends, and adventure.

Of course all of this will depend on us actually getting through the prairies. We have already received a cancellation notice for our campground in Manitoba and we are just waiting for one from Saskatchewan – apparently, along with approximately 120 km of the TCH, it is presently under 60cm of water!! Our RV is awesome but it doesn’t float so some adjustments may be in order. I’ll be sure to remind David that this is the very definition of adventure!!

My plan is, as I did last summer in Newfoundland, to blog each day. The illustrated story of our trip really is more for me than anyone but I welcome all of you to share in my thrills of discovery. I received so much wonderful feedback from those of you who followed our travels last summer. Many of the comments came even long after we’d arrive back home. While that’s lovely, it’s also absolutely wonderful to hear from you while I’m on the road. While I’ve said that I am writing this blog for me, it’s so much more satisfying to write for an audience. So please sign up and comment as we go. Hearing from you helps me to still feel connected when I’m on the road.

Let the adventure begin!

The dining room and living room.

The reason we LOVE this RV - big windows and comfy chairs!
