Still the cutest thing in Calgary no matter what we see! |
Today it had been recommended that we check out Heritage Park.
Described as Black Creek like (to those from Ontario), Fortress of Louisburg like (for those from the Maritimes), Tattoo like (for those from Newfoundland), it is a reconstructed pioneer prairie town. Jeffrey, Nancy and Cecilia were going with Wendy and Steve (Nancy’s parents) so we joined in. What a treat! Man do they know how to do it up right in Calgary. This reconstruction was the best I have ever seen. We spent all day feeling like we had slipped back to days of yore. Pioneers inhabited the town and spent all day in character. Whether you ran into them in a local establishment or later on a street corner, they were always in character and interacted with you as if you too were one of the towns folk. David and Jeffrey both were propositioned by a young lady clearly in the market for a good catch. Following the rules of the day on appropriate flirting she was very interested in whether or not they owned land and how many heads were in their herd. She started to walk away when they announced they were taken but Nancy, not to be outdone, entered the fray to chastise her for propositioning her husband. Great fun for all it seemed but we thought those poor folks must be exhausted at the end of a work day since they just didn’t quit!
